Samuel Alford Giles & Rebecca Oaten

Samuel Alford Giles was born on 3rd August 1852 in Jersey.

He migrated to Australia with his parents, William Giles and Judith Francoise Mesnage in 1864, leaving Jersey on 11th May 1864 aboard the “Art Union” and arriving in Adelaide on 22nd August 1864.

On 14th September 1875 he married Rebecca Oaten (daughter of William Howe Oaten and Eliza Cook) in St Matthews Church, Kensington, South Australia.

Samuel died on 5th May 1929 in Magill and was buried in Payneham Cemetery on 7th May 1929.

George Giles & Myrtle Maria Schultze

George Giles was born on 9th September 1891 in Port Pirie, South Australia. His parents were Samuel Giles and Rebecca Oaten.

He married Myrtle Maria Schultze, daughter of Alfred John Schulze and Olivia Heath on 17th June 1911 in Kensington, South Australia.

In 1916 he joined the 3rd Australian Light Horse and served in Palestine until 1917 when he was wounded and discharged as medically unfit.

In 1939 he again signed up for service with the Australian Army and served until again being discharged as medically unfit in September 1944.

George and Myrtle had four children, Jean, Bill, Olive and Robert.

He died in the Royal Adelaide Hospital on 12th May 1960 and was buried on the 13th May 1960 in Centennial Park Cemetery.

Myrtle was born on 15th October 1893 in Carrieton, South Australia and died on 24th October 1973. Her ashes were sprinked from a plane over the area of her childhoom home in Carrieton.

George Charles Hargreaves & Jean Giles

George Charles Hargreaves was born on 28th September 1915 in Nurse Johanna Tonge’s hospital in Yarra Glen.

When he was six years of age, his father, Charles Albert Hargreaves, died from cancer so the family had to sell the farm at Dixon’s Creek and move to Healesville.

George then attended Badger Creek Primary School where the school teacher was extremely cruel.

He married Jean Giles on 3rd January 1942 at The Salvation Army South Melbourne.

George died on the 12th October 1979 in Bethesda Hospital, Richmond and was buried on the 16th October 1979 in the Yarra Glen Cemetery.

Jean was born to George Giles and Myrtle Maria Schultze on 12th February 1913 in Stepney, south Australia and died on the 15th September 1998 in the Valley Private Hospital and was buried in the Yarra Glen Cemetery on the 21st September 1998.

Thomas Jesse Howard Ivy was born on 7th May 1830 in Bitton, Bristol, England.

He was the son of George Ivy and Mary Gage.

Thomas died on 8th October 1917 in Kew, Victoria, Australia. He was buried in Melbourne General Cemetery on 10th October 1917.

John Kilpatrick & Eleanor Gilmour

John Kilpatrick was the son of James Kilpatrick and Catherine McAllister.

He was born 27th January 1797, probably in Crossland, Coleraine, Desertoghill, Ballymoney, Derry, Ireland.

John died from stomach cancer on the 8th April 1874 in Eltham, Victoria, Australia. He was buried in Eltham Cemetery on 9th April 1874.

Eleanor was born c 1802, probably in Ireland  to Hugh Gilmour and Jane Boyd. She died on 26th June 1866 and was buried in the Eltham Cemetery.

John and Eleanor had 8 children, James, Jane, Hugh, Hugh, Mary Ann, Mary Ann, Sarah and William John.
